Malisense
Game Development & Art Collaboration | UCSC
2023 - 2024
In my first year at UCSC, I worked on GDA’s Malisense as an illustrator, concept artist, UI/UX artist, and 2D animator. There, I collaborated with an 80-person dev team over the course of 20 weeks to develop the game. It recently won 2 awards; SGA’s Short Term GOTY and Excellence in Art Direction. Check it out!
Title Screen
I rendered the Title Screen illustration, which was later passed to another artist for animation. I was given the lined and flat colors of the character and background, and through Procreate, I shaded and rendered the final piece.
Itch.io Cover
I was tasked to create cover art to represent Malisense on the games platform, Itch.io. Working in a 3-person team, I drafted thumbnail sketches before moving onto further stages. I created the final thumbnail sketch, received assistance with the central character’s line art, and rendered the final illustration.
UI/UX Design
I was tasked to shade certain assets to look more golden to fit the game’s style, and so I painted over base assets through Procreate.
Concept Art
In 2 separate teams of 5 artists, I sketched, iterated, and completed final sprites based on concept art created within the team. Each final sprite was separated into specific layers that could be rigged and animated.
